Donation of 300 pairs of reading glasses by Fondation Coup de Cœur to Rising Out Of The Ashes, Toronto, Canada, for distribution to various charitable organizations in Egypt.


The request:

Dear Jean and Fatima:

It was a pleasure talking to you over the phone and as I mentioned I received your information through Maureen from the Rotary Club of Toronto.  My name is Nevine Yassa and I am the President and Founder of Rising Out Of The Ashes which is a Registered Canadian Charity whose mission to alleviate education and relieve poverty.

As I mentioned I serve the marginalized community of the Zabaleen (Garbage Collectors in slang Egyptian) of Cairo and we would greatly appreciate receiving 4 boxes (280) as long as the option strength is from 1 to 3.5.  You may ship them to xx Bonacres Avenue, attention Nevine Yassa.  Pls note that we have someone who will be leaving for Cairo Mid August and would appreciate sending the glasses ASAP.

Update November 3rd, 2025:

Good afternoon Fatima and Jean, 

Reading glasses were distributed following eye examinations conducted during the association’s medical camps in Minia, Egypt. The beneficiaries expressed great happiness upon receiving the glasses, with most of them noting that the lines in reading had become much clearer and sharper. They also expressed their gratitude to everyone who donated these glasses.
I am enclosing photos of the beneficiaries of your kind donation of reading glasses.
