The request:

Dear Mr. Gagnon and Fatima,

This message is accompanied by a huge thanks from all of us. Our partnership is making a difference in the lives of many rural communities in India. I am glad to submit report (#3) for the following 3 projects:
Big thanks to the generous donors Marcel and Luce Baril for their unconditional love and support. Through the above 3 projects implemented in rural India, 1385 villagers for the first time gained access to clean and affordable water in their communities will now enjoy multiple benefits.
Their improved health will allow them to work more regularly and maintain a more stable income for their families. Women and girls will no longer have to walk long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources and be exposed to multiple dangers along the way. They will be able to use the time saved to acquire the training and education they want and need to improve their families' living conditions.
Bhavanigadda Thanda is a very remote village. Reaching this community was a challenge with no proper roads. Villagers were kind enough to take us on their two wheelers. Prior to our project, their daily struggle in getting water from a neighbouring village (Katrapalli that has a Water system), spending money on commercial water, for transportation as they need to carry water on bikes as well as spending lot of their time, was not an easy situation for them.
Based on the location, 3 small remote communities have been combined as one Gram panchayath (a village governing institute), and therefore for this project all three small communities together gained access to the project. Jarupula Sandhya is a lady Sarpanch (village mayor); The village has an active, positive and united committee. To make use of the opportunity they got for the water project, they were quick to pool the required local funds, despite being a new Gram Panchayath and tight with funds. With the help of village council and some individual donors, as agreed, they managed to construct the room to install a plant and to our surprise much earlier than expected. With active participation, following the trainings, the village is happy and taking the ownership of the project where community members becoming true agents of change.
We thank SOPAR and generous donors in Canada for making this possible. -Mr. Bala Mohan, Program Officer
