The request:

Dear Mr. Gagnon and Fatima,

With immense gratitude, today I am submitting the Report (#5 of 5) for the below two projects generously supported by Marcel and Luce Baril. A total of 4 735 beneficiaries in Machayapalem and Kotchira villages now have access to affordable and purified water to drink.
For many rural communities in India, fetching water is a daily struggle. By Having access to water, a major burden is lifted and transforms women and girls’ daily life. Water is excessively high in fluoride in many villages such as these two beneficiary villages.
Consuming contaminated water for a long time leads to health complications. By installing water systems, communities are gaining access to purified water.
Elected committees are trained to manage the project, communities are taking the ownership of the project and slowly developing their villages. These projects are reaching entire community.
Brief information about project beneficiary villages:
Machayapalem village in located in Andhra Pradesh state, India. Previously they used to get drinking water from a neighboring community. Not only spent money on purchasing the water but it is costing them for travel and spending their precious time as well. Sometimes they would need to go in the night. Such situations were even more difficult during COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
Seeing the daily struggles of the village, Mr. Laxmi Narayana, village Sarpanch (mayor) with the good support of Mrs. Padma a local political leader who is also from the same village and other local politicians, approached Bala Vikasa and applied for a water purification plant.
Initially they were put on a waiting list as there were no projects available. In the meantime, as they know it is their responsibility to provide the room for water plant installation, village committee initiated the room setup, village governing body provided a place and with local donations they built the room.
Soon with the help of generous donor FCC, Marcel and Luce Baril, their village was selected on priority basis due to excess Fluoride (2.5ppm) content level in their water.
It was a timely and big help and the entire community expressed their joy and gratefulness to the donors and for the successful completion of the project.

Kotchira village in Telangana state is located about 12 kms from the boarders of Maharashtra and Karnataka states. Based on their location, villagers speak multiple languages. Many years back Kotchira village approached Bala Vikasa for help, but in the meantime, a private water purification business came up in their village and made the village ineligible for approving Bala Vikasa (BV) water plant.
After few years, with no proper maintenance, the private business did not run well and had to shutdown completely. Kotchira village council once again approached BV for help. As the ground water in the village is severely contaminated with Flouride, the village drilled a borewell far away from their village, and through a pipeline and tap system, the water is pumped to their houses. They have access to water for general purposes but not for drinking purpose, which is why they needed it urgently. (Previously they used to travel 6 kms, paid almost 7 times more than the current price for the 20 liters water can.
Village governing body is also supporting to pay the new water plant electricity bill, which allowed the water committee to lower the cost of purified water and made it even more affordable to the villagers. Entire community participated actively and successfully inaugurated the project.
Machayapalem and Kotchira communities are grateful to Bala Vikasa, SOPAR and the generous donors in Canada for enabling their villages to enjoy purified water to drink at an affordable price.
Access to water is leading to multiple benefits. Thank you for the gift of water.
We take this opportunity to share our heartfelt thanks to the Fondation Coup de Cœur and the generous donors Marcel and Luce for your kind support and continued partnership.
