Dear Jean and Fatima,

I hope you are finally enjoying a little nice weather while we are all still stuck doing zoom meetings. I know we are all scrambling with year end activities, and the changing TRF rules are just adding to that work.
I was in Uganda last August commissioning some wells for a Global Grant some of our clubs had done, and while there investigated a new project for this year sponsored by our West Haven club and met with the host club leadership in Fort Portal, Uganda. The need for this project is clear once you've been there or read the Community Assessment.
Improving Water, Sanitation (WASH), and Hygiene Conditions in Bujangara, Uganda is the classic scenario of 550 families, 2,500 residents with 850 school age children in 3 mountain top villages who currently walk 2-3 hours each way to collect dirty water from whatever source they can find.  The Grant is to drill a deep fresh water well, install solar powered pumps and storage tanks, and a water distribution network to 3 schools, 2 churches, a mosque, and 2 trading centers along with 11 culturally acceptable latrines with hand washing stations, and significant water and sanitation training to increase the general health of the community. Total budget $95,075.00.
I know most of our clubs and Districts have focused on local COVID 19 related issues lately, but there is no doubt international needs are still out there and villages such as these will recover slowly from the pandemic.  Poverty and unemployment were rampant before the crisis, projects such as these will help them bounce back.

I have Community Assessments and draft Global Grant applications if you would like me to email them to you.
