To:   Fondation Coup de Cœur

Good day M. Gagnon et Mme Lahmami,

On behalf of SOPAR and the villagers in India who benefit from your generosity, I would like to thank you warmly for your support year after year. We are very grateful to you.
While many villages have seen their living conditions improved thanks to you and your donors, many more are still waiting for our help. That's why I'm coming back for help with two water projects in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in south-east India.
Two projects, two villages, two states but the same reality: the villagers of Kollamvaripalem (Andhra Pradesh) and Velugomula (Telangana) are among the lower castes, traditionally marginalized castes and most are illiterate. They are, for the most part, landless farmers who offer their services to wealthier people for a wage of $ 1 to $ 2 a day.
There is no running water or wells in these two villages. People, mostly women and children, fetch their water from a well outside their village. They spend a lot of time doing this. J.Nagaiah, elder of the village of Kollamvaripalem and S.Mannem, the community leader of Velugomula, have called on Bala Vikasa, our sister organization in India, for help to have a hand pump well built in their respective villages.
With your support, these two projects could provide drinking water to more than 450 people. The total cost of these two projects is $ 2,000, of which 10% will come from the contribution of the beneficiary villagers.
The aim of these projects is to ensure that villagers have easy access to water which will have many positive impacts: increased health and hygiene, more time for mothers to take care of their families and work to increase their family income and more time for children to go to school.

We sincerely hope that the Fondation Coup de Cœur can support both projects and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Shobha Singareddy
Director, SOPAR
