Dear Jean and Fatima,

I am happy to submit to you today the report of three water filtration systems that were possible thanks to the generous contributions of Claude and Francine and that permitted 4 985 people to have an easy and affordable access to safe water. These projects were of the utmost importance because the underground water of these three villages contained a fluorine excess causing serious health problems among the communities.
At SOPAR, we encourage the beneficiaries to participate actively in our development projects in their village. These people invest their time, energy and money. They become united and proud towards their own achievement. Here is a touching example of the transformation our way of doing brings in communities:
Raju (linked photo) lives in the village of Gundaredypalli. He has never been to school and works, for as long as he can remember, in the fields for land owners of his village. His daily 1$ salary barely allows him to feed his family. Raju has two children and a grandson. Since a certain time, his grandson has gastric troubles linked with the consumption of contaminated water. The doctors have strongly recommended the family to drink purified water, but they are not able to afford it. Raju’s spouse is part of the Gundaredypalli women’s SOPAR group. She informed Raju about the possibility of making a demand for the installation of a water filtration system in their village, like neighbor villages have done. Raju went to talk with the mayor and the village’s ancients. He demonstrated the importance of such a project not only for his grandson but also for all the community.
When SOPAR accepted the village’s demand, Raju involved himself actively in order for the project to be a success. The villagers have elected him as a member of the committee of the project. Raju, his family, and especially his grandson are very proud of what he has accomplished.
In the name of Raju and his family, please thank warmly Mr. Claude and Mrs.Francine for their senses of sharing and of solidarity towards the neediest of our planet.

Sincere salutations,
Janice Aubry,
Program manager
