Hello Jean and Fatima,

I hope your health is doing well with all the Rotary projects in which you are involved internationally. Once more I am requesting your financial support in the latest grant program just launched by the Rotary Foundation. This is a special competition for water and sanitation project in primary schools in 5 countries that are, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, Kenya and India. The proposal must be $ 500,000 and over and offers services to a maximum number of students.
Our Rotary Club Barrington Breakfast in Los Angeles will be the International Club and the Host Club for this competition will be the Rotario Guatemala Sur Club represented by Francisco Viau and George Aufranc whom you already know. The project outcome will transform and positively impact lives for children!!! The specific goals are:
-Clean filtered water and WASH stations for 16,000 - 20,000 children in 48 schools in Sacatepéquez Department in Guatemala
-Access to gender segregated sanitary facilities with flush toilets at each school
-Facilities for girls that are designed particularly to respond to their needs during the menstrual cycle
-Effective hygiene educational program to encourage habit formation and to promote behavioral change
-A menstrual hygiene management program focused on the biology of the menstruation cycle and safe practices
-Extensive training for menstrual hygiene – goal is to have girls stay in school.
The project is funded at $690,000 with The Rotary Foundation contributing $530,000. The  remaining amount of $160,000 was raised by the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club through contributions from Rotary District Designated Funds (DDF), club cash and private funds. Eight districts contributed $72,000 in District Designated Funds (DDF). Twenty-three (23) Rotary clubs contributed $86,800 in club cash with the remaining funds coming from private entities. The dollar value of the award is the largest for a grant ever for our district 6440, and possibly for zones 28 and 29 also. We are grateful for our partner’s support. The award of this grant now presents an opportunity to begin putting all our plans into action to help children, with emphasis on improving education for girls. In addition to active engagement by the host and international Rotary clubs, we have created alliances with municipal governments, school authorities and local community of the Sacatepéquez Department in Guatemala.
We have a big challenge in front of us and we are up to it. Working together as a team, we will achieve our project goals.
