December 10, 2016

Hello Mrs. Lahmami and Mr. Gagnon,

First of all, we would like to thank you warmly for the financial support you provide annually to our mission in Benin.
This year, we come again to ask you, on behalf of our charitable organization "Bénin Enfants Sains" financial assistance for the installation of a well equipped with a motor pump for the daily watering of a community garden in the village of Zobinou Condji,  of Great Popo in Benin. Pomps and gardens set up in other villages last year with your help have had beneficial effects on children's health. Our NGO of St-Adèle 'Bénin Enfants Sains', will be the project manager of this project and the amount that we are soliciting from you is $ 1,800.
Relevance of the project:
The field work started 15 years ago where the teacher Mrs. Leduc, supervised student nurses in Benin. Her doctoral studies in Public Health at the University of Montreal allowed her to meet Beninese doctors and develop from her network of contacts an NGO in Grand Popo that carries out the clinical examination and the follow-up of about 1 500 children per year.
The mission of the NGO is to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate of children from 0 to 5 years and to increase the autonomy of the families as well as the health of the mothers in the commune of Grand Popo (Benin).
Several villages in Grand Popo do not have drinking water and this lack is responsible for severe diarrhea in young children. Some gardens have been set up but the dry season reduces the harvest time and increases the rate of malnutrition. Yearly garden watering will greatly improve the health of weaning children by providing them with proteins and vitamins that will allow them to grow, strengthen their immune system and reduce their anemia rate due to the lack of green vegetables.
Transparency and good governance:
The president will be in Benin in January-February 2017 to follow up with the Beninese coordinator who is permanently on site. We will be able to inaugurate the well in January/February 2017.
Impact:
Concerning the sustainability of the project, Bénin Enfants Sains will ensure the continuity of the project by donations from Canada and Benin. An annual report will also show you how the health of children and the local population has improved. A governance and maintenance committee composed of local leaders will be set up, which will ensure the sustainability of the project.
Also, Bénin Enfants Sains is committed to providing photos at various stages of drilling; also photos during the big event that will be the inauguration of the well.

In the hope that you will again support this year our humanitarian aid project in Benin.

Thank you very much on behalf of the local people as well as on my behalf.

Louise Leduc
President of Bénin Enfants Sains
