The project:

Dr. Colin A. Chapman (Fellow of the Royal Society and teacher at McGill University, Montreal) has established a mobile clinic serving more than 40,000 people in Kibale National Park, Uganda.
On each of his trips to this country, we handed him 250 pairs of reading glasses so that he would distribute them to those who needed him during the missions of his mobile clinic in multiple small villages around the Park.

The request:

Dear Jean and Fatima,

I would like to formally request to receive more reading glasses to be distributed to the people living near Kibale National Park, Uganda. These are given out as part of the services provided by the Kibale Mobile Health and Conservation Clinic. The glasses that you provided us with last year were very much appreciated by the local community, so much that we ran out of glasses before meeting even the local demand. This year, we are building the program and having the students from the Canadian Field Studies in Africa participate in the circulation of the news of the availability of glasses (ensuring that the information gets to the most needed) and then the students will participate with a team of nurses and hopefully an eye doctor to distribute the glasses. We also have a few pairs of actual glasses and we hope the eye doctor will evaluate patients and appropriately distribute them to those in need – we intend this to be the start of a program that students collect glasses here in Montreal and then they are distributed by Medical professional in Africa (or by volunteer doctors from Canada – my eye doctor provided the glasses). Given the fact that there are over 40,000 people in the area immediately adjacent to Kibale, the need for reading glasses is great, so if you could provide more reading glasses this would be most appreciated.

Yours sincerely,
Colin A. Chapman
