The project:

In the villages of Phoolbari and Pathlekhet in Nepal, construction of 100 water retention basins with a capacity of 50,000 liters each. These basins are dug by hand and are equipped with a plastic membrane treated against the ultraviolet rays of the sun as well as against the contamination of water. This project will cost $ 47,250.00 and will provide drinking water to more than 500 people.

Dear Jean and Fatima,

I hope this email finds you well and in good health.
First of all, my Rotary Club and myself would like to thank you very much for your precious help concerning the water project that we lately did in Panama.
The Rotary Club of Gananoque is at the beginning stage to do a Global Grant for a water project in Nepal.
Here are more explanations:
The name of this project is ''Rainwater Harvesting'' and this project will provide water to five villages.
These villages are at a higher elevation and run out of water in the dry season.
Hilly villages in Nepal lies 1000-2000 m. above the sea level and at the ridge top of the hill. With the water sources lying in the bottom of the hills, it suffers much during the dry seasons. People in the village are mostly farmers and most of them have animals (cows and buffalos) which they rear for the milk. Each family requires a large amount of water daily to feed the animals and to irrigate their garden. The women in the village spend almost 45 minutes to fetch 20 liters of water in a jerry can called “Gagri”, therefore,  half a day is lost for women just by carrying water to fulfill their needs.
The Rotaract Club  in Nepal has discovered that they can dig the ponds and put a plastic liner in it to trap the water when it rains. Our Club has funded a number of these ponds that are vey successful. The people can now water their vegetables and animals in the dry season and they want to expand these ponds by 100, for a total cost of $ 47,250.00 Cdn.
We have been working very hard to raise the first $ 33,250.00 Cdn and we are hoping that you will be interested in helping us with part of the $ 14,000 Cdn needed  in order to reach our goal.

Thanks again for you collaboration.
