The project:

Well drilling in Totogalpa, Nicaragua, to provide drinking water to 2,000 people as well as to the Luz Divina Cooperative chicken breeding farm), for a total cost of $ 20,000.00.

The request:

To: Jean and Fatima,

Below is my grand application for a well drilling in Nicaragua.
From June 2014 to June 2015, I’ve had the great privilege to do a humanitarian trip and travel the world with my daughter Janouka. During our trip, we met thousands of children living in misery and poverty.
When arriving in Nicaragua after 10 months of travelling, we were shocked by the lack of water supply and poverty in ‘Central America’s dry corridor’. The populations we met hadn’t received a single drop of rain for the past 6 months. After efforts of our own, we decided to take out from our personal funds and start an agricultural cooperative, by setting up a chicken farm to help feed a village of 350 families.
However, the cooperative is not currently functioning because we do not have access to drinking water, and it is urgent for us to find necessary funds to build a well.
Brief description of the organization submitting the project:
Solidarité Tour du Monde began in June 2014 when we started our humanitarian world tour. We organized a few activities to help raise funds and help the poor. We also received several donations, which allowed us to carry out our projects in the 18 countries where we worked and supported local communities. We intend to continue our work around the world for many years to come, hoping that others will also join us.
Sustainability:
Sr. Marlene Barrantes, Responsible of the social pastoral for the Tertiary Capucines Sisters, will ensure the project’s sustainability in Totogalpa, Madriz Department, Nicaragua. We’ve estimated the total well’s cost, and hand pump installation to be around CAD $20,000.
The MINTA St-Bruno Foundation has generously accepted to contribute to our project, by donating CAD $4,000.
A benefit dinner will be held on January 30 th 2016, to help raise more funds (our goal is to raise CAD $7,000).
Project’s Benefits:
The project’s biggest impact will be to provide access to drinking water to the community, and promote health and survival in the region. Moreover, this drinking water will allow the Luz Divina cooperative to provide vital food supplies to people living without water or electricity.
