Dear Mr Jean Gagnon and Mrs Fatima Lahmami,

My name is Gilles Charrette and I’m a member of the pastoral council for the Catholic church of Rawdon and I represent an ecumenical body with “les Églises Anglicane et Unie” in our locality.
For several years we have been working together on certain overseas aid projects, with a clear emphasis on projects focussed on supplying drinking water.
In collaboration with the Paris Foreign Mission Society, we financed a gravity-fed water supply system for a village in the Honduran mountains, San Luis Bellavista. In cooperation with L’AMIE, we also financed a water distribution system in a secondary school in Rwanda.
Alongside L’AMIE, for roughly three years we have been involved in the construction of protected wells for the small village of Kodapaluwa in Sri Lanka. This project is part of a more global project which had already been introduced by Father Chryso Pieris SJ to L’AMIE several years before but had to be abandoned due to a lack of funding. We therefore decided to take on the surface wells portion of this vast project.
We though the project was fully thought through and well put together. It is sponsored and managed by Father Pieris from the Jesuit community of Sri Lanka and will benefit around 350 very poor people.
Its relevance and impact on the population seemed clear: as these families’ water source is from holes dug in the ground, this water becomes regularly contaminated by mud and animals, let alone the risk of children having accidents.
Our funding comes from the small change that the parishioners and citizens of Rawdon bring every Sunday, as well as from the well sponsorship.
To date, we have restored 18 wells out of a total of 40. As each well costs $500.00, the budget required to restore the remaining 22 wells stands at $11,000.00.
With our next funding campaign, which will fetch roughly $7,000.00, we are looking for $4,000.00 to complete our funding.
Knowing that your foundation often works alongside the Minta Saint-Bruno foundation we were wondering if your two foundations could support our project?
We await what we hope will be a positive response.
