Drilling of a well in the village of Guluma in Kenya.

The request:

To: Foundation Coup de Cœur
Mr. Gagnon and Ms. Langlois

My name is Béatrice Osome and I was born in the village of Kiritu, located in the western part of Kenya. I come from a poor family of eight children, we and the children of the village had to carry water on our heads for two kilometres to provide water for our family needs. I also lost my 12-year-old sister, struck by typhoid, due to contaminated surface water.
In 1971, at the age of 27 and after completing my course of nursing, I immigrated with my husband Benson in London, Ontario, and I now live in Ottawa. During my trips to the Kenya, I have found that significant progress was made in the cities, but the situation in the hinterland is still disastrous. So I decided in 2007 to undertake an annual fundraiser for the installation of a well with a hand pump in villages and schools around my native village. This fundraiser, an amount of $5,000 in recent years, is among my friends, members of my church and the Ottawa West Rotary Club, under the direction of Mr. Robert Harrison.
Today, I am addressing your Foundation (Foundation Coup de Cœur) to know if you would like to participate in my 2015 water project. As your Foundation specializes in the field of water, I will not list the benefits that this water will bring to each of its beneficiaries.

Hoping that my request will be considered and accepted,

I remain your very dedicated,

Beatrice Osome
